It's been an interesting few days. I was plagued with morning sickness Monday afternoon. However, after 48 hours of constant vomiting (well dry heaving most of the time) I started to think maybe it wasn't morning sickness. I contacted my IM doc and my OB via email Tuesday. My IM doc told me to consult my OB as she couldn't really do anything since I was pregnant. I contacted me OB once again on Wednesday as I hadn't peed in over 24 hours and I hadn't had anything to eat or drink. Phenergan oral and rectally didn't help. Zofran sub lingual didn't help. Peppermint and ginger didn't help. I couldn't keep anything oral down for more than 5 minutes or so. Pregnancy constipation has kept my bowel movements down to once every 2-3 days. I had a small one on Tuesday morning. Gross I know.
Well, the OB nurse told me to come to the office asap. They would decide what to do when I got there. Of course I got sick about 5 minutes after I arrived. Ugh. They started an IV (with the help of my DH) and gave me a liter of fluid and a push of IV Zofran. I started to feel better pretty quickly. They wanted to give me another liter but I wanted to go home. Had my DH not been an anesthesiologist, they would have admitted me. Instead, I went home with a liter of fluids hanging and a liter to give later, as well as RXs for Phenergan gel, suppositories, and pills, as well as Zofran sub lingual. I got all 3 liters of fluid. It took several hours to finally pee. Then I had to pee every 10-15 minutes. Ugh...
I ate some soup shortly after I arrived home, and then ate McDonald's...I know, gross, but it was too good. Unfortunately all that came back up about 0200. I've vomited a handful of times since then. Starting to feel better though. Pretty sure I am on the down side of this Virus. Yep, turns out it is NOT morning sickness, just a GI bug. All I have to say is it better be gone by Sunday. I have plans in Vegas! LOL
The DH showed up to the office shortly after I arrived. He works at the hospital across the parking lot. Handy. My OB was out of town so I got to see the new guy. He was really nice.
Any who, he used this handheld ultrasound called a GE VScan to make sure Chance was ok; since I was a little dehydrated. Chance was fine. My fluid looked a little low, but he wasn't concerned since I was getting fluid. This was the first time my DH got to see an ultrasound. He's been working every time I went. He was very excited. He may have cried a little..LOL
I think my DH finally believes me that I can feel Chance moving. I told him when he moved and it showed on the ultrasound. I couldn't see the ultrasound. I think the OB was a little surprised I could feel him moving already.
So I went home and have been here since. Ready to stop being sick.
I am officially past the miscarriage mark. The chance of miscarriage after 12 weeks is only 1%.
Oh, the DH didn't want me taking the Zofran because of those 1-800-Bad Drug commercials. I am sure you've all seen them. I brought that up with the OB yesterday. He said there had been two studies (bad ones) that showed a neural tube defect in one patient and a cleft lip and pallet in another patient. No miscarriages. He said the benefits outweigh the risks (if there really are any) early in pregnancy if you are really sick. After that 12 week mark, you're really just baking at this point and all the structures are already formed. So taking any form at Zofran at this point is fine. He also said taking it once a day won't hurt anything early on, it would be 3-4 times a day there might could be a problem. Fortunately for me, I didn't have any morning sickness. Whew. Thanks to the shots and patches I dodged that bullet completely.
I haven't started showing yet, and I lost 5 pounds (8 according to me scale, but the doctor scale is official) with this virus. I have been fortunate not to have gained any with the first trimester. Normally a person gains 5 in the first, 7-10 in the second, and all the rest in the third. Since I started out overweight, I am only allowed to gain 15-25 pounds with the pregnancy. I want to keep it closer to the 15 pound mark, less if possible and everyone is healthy.
Think I'll take a nap now....
